History

The Pointer has been bred for many generations to be a biddable, birdy, gun dog.

Believed to be originally from Spain, they were once known as Spanish Pointers, far heavier-cast dogs than the Pointers of today.  British Army officers brought them home from Spain at the end of the War of Spanish Succession in the early 1700s. Later, the Spanish Pointers were crossed with Italian Pointers to produce the English Pointer, or the Pointer as we know him today.
